A Friendly Reminder

An Open Call application under the theme "The state we´re in". I received a reply that I almost made it, and in that case the image above would have been decorated several billboards throughout the UK. I still hold this idea dear.

The work is a cut-out in cotton fabric in the shape of a long triangle. The choice of material and the fast execution is to give associations to a humanness in the simple and playful way. For the Open Call it was important to give something that has a solid truth in it. With text, the message seems to be clear but with my work, I like things to be open-ended and up the personal view, I, therefore, search and construct sentences that have multiple interpretations.

In this case, I have a few possible outcomes of thoughts: It can be a sensation of magic because you are the one reading, and that you are the cause of the change. Another person might feel as if the world is moving while they are standing still. In that sense it is a small critique of advertising; while you are busy looking at billboards, everything changes around you. Finally, and hopefully, it can cause thoughts that are: hold on, withstand, this too will pass and change. With the seemingly never-ending state we are in just the simple awareness of knowing that everything is constantly changing might help someone to find the strength to endure.
