About

Karin Kytökangas, 1991, from Vetlanda, Sweden, lives in The Hague, The Netherlands. Works within an autonomous art practice with painting, performance, and sculptures in soft materials based on handmade creations. Through experimentation and playfulness, our big universal thoughts and questions are being explored, and the outcome is a comical existential dread wrapped in everyday and concrete imagery. The aim is to balance between contrasts: The humbleness of soft materials transforms into wobbly but forceful statements. Power structures such as death, work, and gravity are being combined with their counterparts: humor and dreams. The practice is in a borderland between works with a temporary timespan and more traditional, long-lasting, pieces to gaze upon. Colors play a central role in the mentioned balance of contrast, and Kyto studied color theory at the start of her career.
