About

Karin Kyto, 1991, from Vetlanda, Sweden, lives in The Hague, The Netherlands. In this broad practice, there is only one obstruction: It all comes from a closeness of working by hand. Not because it has to be a specific author who makes the work, but due to a fascination with our ability to experience ourselves in the world, and how that translates into an urge to comment on that existence. The pieces often turn out to be sweet and cheerful, as if they want to cover up their inherently sad nature. Like a friend, humor comes to rescue us from the dark hole of mortality we seem to be thrown into. Storytelling and the use of words that carry a double meaning are endless companions—partly solidifying that the pieces exist in their material form and partly suggesting another reality where the artwork may be freeing itself from us who are looking.
